Tower Stationary Monitoring

TRU-SCAN® Stationary Monitoring is a test that has been developed to understand flow dynamics at a particular point within the process system as a function of time. Examples of its application include the determination of the incipient flood point, operational surges in distillation towers, monitoring and calibration of level instruments and liquid entrainment studies. For some complicated applications, several stationary monitoring points on a tower are needed to observe the dynamic changes at different locations simultaneously.

This example shows the stationary monitoring results from a capacity test. A TRU-SCAN® showed the top 2 trays flooding in this tower. To maintain operation at maximum rates the customer wanted to establish the operating limits before flooding. While monitoring the tray that floods, operations went through a sequence of steps to increase rates. The monitoring allowed operations to establish the maximum operating rates without flooding.
