The TRACERCO Profiler™ for subsea applications

Unlocking subsea potential

The future of oil recovery lies in accessing increasingly complicated reserves. In many applications seabed processing holds the key. This presents many challenges including providing robust and reliable real time information about key process parameters.

Tracerco has been involved in the revolutionary application of its award winning Profiler technology for use in the first commercial seabed processing plant.

With global oil prices reaching record levels and primary recovery methods approaching their use-by-dates, the industry is in a critical position.

The industry needs a greater range of improved oil recovery techniques and the race for suitable, cost-effective solutions is now on.

The benefits of the proven Tracerco Profiler technology have now been taken subsea to provide the ultimate marriage between performance, reliability and the environment. Maintenance free the instrument provides vertical phase distribution, interface quality and level information to enable transparent separation.

TRACERCO Diagnostics™ Tank Vision

A range of world leading Tracerco technologies can be used to ensure your storage capacity is utilized to maximum effect.

These specialist services are used on stream to monitor deposits within storage facilities in a variety of vessels such as FPSO’s and onshore storage facilities. The TRACERCO Diagnostics™ TankVision technique uses a unique design, which means that it is suitable for hazardous areas.

TRACERCO Diagnostics™ ThruVision

Investigation and Analysis of Maldistribution Problems

  • Map liquid maldistribution in packed columns
  • Profile catalyst distribution in FCCU risers
  • Identify integrity problems with column and reactor internals (packing, demister pads, catalyst beds, etc.)
  • Measurement of Ice / hydrate deposits in gas lines
  • Measurement of solid / liquid buildup in pipelines
  • Two dimensional vessel scanning
Blocked pipe with void in top section
Pipe containing deposits in bottom section

The use of TRACERCO Diagnostics™ ThruVision Tomography system provides a powerful non-intrusive
inspection tool to examine the contents of pipe lines and vessels across a wide range of process industries. The process vessel can be a packed distillation column or a fluidized catalyst riser or standpipe where flow distribution of the process fluids is vital to performance.

The first step to determine liquid maldistribution in a packed column is to use the TRACERCO Diagnostics™ Tower Scan. This provides an initial look at the liquid distribution within the packing. If more quantitative information about liquid distribution is desired or if there is a reasonable suspicion that the bed is experiencing annular liquid maldistribution then the TRACERCO Diagnostics™ ThruVision is recommended.

The system produces 2D density maps of the contents of a vessel. The results are produced on-site and an initial report can be given by the experienced Tracerco engineers undertaking the measurements. The system is adaptable to a wide range of pipe and vessel sizes.

TRACERCO Diagnostics™ PhaseCal

Technology in Multiphase Flow Metering

A range of world leading Tracerco technologies can be used to ensure your flow metering
systems run at maximum efficiency.

These specialist services are used on-stream to calibrate one, two or three phase flows to
confirm the accuracy of a variety of installed meters.

Areas of application include:

  • Measurement of gas flow rate
  • Measurement of water flow rate
  • Measurement of hydrocarbon condensate flow rate
  • Independent measurement of shrinkage

TRACERCO Diagnostics™ RapidScan

Do you want an installed method of regularly assessing the operation of your distillation tower, reducing operating costs and reducing shutdown time?

To meet the changing needs of our customers the Tracerco research and development team has designed an alternative technique to conventional tower scanning. The TRACERCO Diagnostics™ RapidScan technology combines sophisticated wireless detector capability with an easy to install permanent scanning guide wire system.

The TRACERCO Diagnostics™ Tower Scan method has been used for over 20 years by many major chemical and refining companies around the world. The combined data acquisition software from these techniques coupled with TRACERCO Diagnostics™ RapidScan hardware increases efficiency and reliability of scan data by providing fast, consistent data acquisition from fixed orientations. The service allows repeatable tower scanning that can quickly evaluate mechanical or
process related problems offering plant personnel a cost effective process diagnostics solution to optimize or troubleshoot tower performance. Even columns with limited or zero ladder access do not pose an obstacle following installation of a TRACERCO Diagnostics™ RapidScan system.

  • Improved Accuracy - the scans will use a fixed orientation so repeat scans are guaranteed to utilise identical geometries
  • Better Data Reliability – data will not be affected by weather conditions (wind)
  • Increased Safety – all scanning operations will be from ground level with no need to climb the tower, eliminating workingfrom heights
  • Greater Cost Savings – after initial setup, the high costs of scaffolding or cranes for columns that have inadequate or no access is eliminated
  • Enhanced Efficiency – reduces time needed to conduct a scan lessening the burden on operations to hold column at set conditions

The TRACERCO Profiler™ for desalter applications
Within many refineries there is a growing tendency to process heavier crudes or blend these into lighter feedstocks. During crude oil refining it is advantageous to optimise the blend to reduce overall feedstock costs whilst at the same time ensuring the final mix can be adequately processed with minimal upset.

One of the fundamental needs is the efficient separation of waste water from the crude using a desalter vessel after water washing the feedstock to reduce chloride levels.

Upon a request from a major oil refiner, Tracerco redesigned its award winning TRACERCO Profiler™ instrument to withstand the elevated operating temperatures typically experienced within a desalter vessel. Tracerco’s in-house development capability of leading edge scientists and physicists was used to produce, test and commission a new instrument with suitable design specifications within a six month timeframe needed to meet a pre-planned shutdown schedule.

Utilizing advanced measurement technology, The Tracerco Profiler™ can accurately measure phases including oil, emulsion (rag), water and solids/sludge in a desalter vessel in real time to 1” vertical resolution across the vessel vertical span.

TRACERCO™ Radiation Monitor (T202)

Providing accurate measurements of liquid detected within gas streams enables operators to optimise and control their separation systems”.

Tracerco Presents 3D Modelling Visualisation
Tracerco is to unveil a new 3D simulation software. The 3D modelling visualisation software, will offer operators the opportunity to visualise the movement and full flow within their production separators. Tracerco will use the software in conjunction with the TRACERCO Diagnostics™ technologies to ensure that the operator’s oil and gas systems are running at maximum efficiency.

The 3D modelling visualisation software, when used in conjunction with the TRACERCO Diagnostics™ Separator Study service, will prove to be an effective specialist service to oil and gas operators, as it permits many production parameters to be measured. The TRACERCO Diagnostics™ Separator Study service is an on-line diagnostic study capable of identifying the process conditions that exist within production separators and the mechanical integrity of its internal components.

Managing Director Andy Hurst “In high throughput production systems, even a small uncertainty in monitoring any one the operational aspects will result in reduced productivity. The new 3D modelling visualisation software strengthens our capabilities and enables our customers to view exactly what is going on within their separation systems”
