TruTec TowerVision™
Procedure for Process Improvement
- Choose proper control variables and predict key responses
by process simulations
- Analyze historical data and process constraints for
an efficient design of experiment
- Monitor column behavior by performing TRU-SCAN®
and Tru-Grid™ Scans
- Evaluate results by Scan/Simulation Integrated Diagnostics™
(SSID)

The TruTec TowerVision™ program will help you identify
more opportunities to improve distillation units. TruTec
Scan/Simulation Integrated Diagnostics™ (SSID) combines
theoretical simulations and real-world scans to assist plant
engineers to implement corrective action plans. Operation-Capacity
Diagrams (OCD) are a graphical tool used to analyze column
hydraulics and optimize column economics.
TruTec™ Scanning Services
- Operating Data Collection - Document T, P, flow rates,
compositions and abnormal scenarios
- TRU-SCAN® and Tru-Grid™ Scan - Confirm tower
operating characteristics.
TowerVision™ Analysis
- Mass balance and heat balance
- Process simulation and hydraulic ratings
- Operation-Capacity Diagram (OCD)
- Tower optimization target and strategy

An Operation-Capacity Diagram (OCD) shows the operable
range and the operating point of a tray. For example when
liquid vapor loads increase, the operating point moves toward
the entrainment flooding boundary.
TRU-SCAN® and Tru-Grid™ Scans are performed on
columns to identify the Incipient Flood Point of a column.
At design rates, a clear vapor region exists between trays.
As the feed rate increases, entrained liquid droplets encroach
upon the liquid/vapor disengagement zone until a clear vapor
space no longer exists. The developing process is better
understood by analyzing the Operation-Capacity Diagram.

It is always desired to run distillation towers and whole
processes at their optimum operating conditions. However,
in many processes these are continuously changing because
of energy cost, feed compositions, product quality or environmental
concerns. We recommend a TruTec TowerVision™ procedure
for any process unit on which a revamp, upgrade or trouble-shooting
operation has been performed. If you would like to learn
