| Solvent Tagging with TRACERCO™
Taggants
More
and more countries are implementing taxation strategies
on fuels (gasoline and diesel) that increase the price difference
between industrial solvents and consumer fuels. This price
differential, which can be significant, can lead to the
adulteration of consumer fuels with industrial solvents
such as benzene, toluene, hexane, kerosene etc. by rogue
elements in society.
This adulteration of fuels not only causes a significant
impact on vehicle lifespan, local urban air quality and
therefore the health of individuals, but can also lead to
huge taxation losses for governments and poor brand image
to fuel marketers.
That is why Tracerco has developed a unique range of molecular
markers, our TRACERCO™ S-Tag series, that is
able to detect industrial solvents within consumer fuels
at less than 2%. The TRACERCO™ S-Tag markers
are organic molecules, added to the solvent at parts per
billion level and are engineered to have no impact whatsoever
on the legitimate use of the individual solvents, such as
paints, varnishes, perfumes, pharmaceuticals etc.
Using
sophisticated analysis, Tracerco is able to offer technology
that enables not only the presence of the solvent to be
identified within the fuels, but also where the solvent
originated from in the supply chain, allowing the authorities
to address the issue at source.
Providing forensic level results, the TRACERCO™
S-Tag enables governments to resolve their fuel adulteration
problems with confidence.
