In the UK, Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) training courses are based on the Health and Safety Executive's requirements for RPS competency. These courses cover the practical aspects of radiation protection under 'The Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR2017)', as well as environmental compliance with 'The Radioactive Substances Act and Environmental Permitting Regulations.
All of our radiation protection courses have been developed to provide delegates with the knowledge they need to be able to supervise others working with sources of ionising radiation.
In addition, a NORM Workshop is included in each of these RPS training courses. This includes a number of syndicate and practical exercises, which are aimed at enabling delegates to secure compliance with the conditions and limitations of a site's environmental permit/authorisation. It is an essential part of the training for those working in the oil and gas industry, as the workshop expands on the learning from the RPS training course and allows specific operational problems/questions to be discussed in an open forum.
Scheduled RPS training courses are regularly held at our offices in Billingham and at Aberdeen, UK. Training can be undertaken at any of our global offices or at a location selected by you. Bespoke courses are designed to meet individual needs and reflect national legislative requirements of the host country.
All of our radiation protection training courses have been developed to provide delegates with the knowledge that they need to be able to supervise others working with sources of ionising radiation. We also provide awareness training, which could include site visits, providing delegates with the opportunity to discuss specific issues.
Delegates will gain an understanding of the hazards and risks associated with work involving ionising radiation, which will enable them to undertake risk assessments, develop safe systems of work, and to be able to implement contingency plans identified from such risk assessments.
Our radiation protection courses are suitable for those working in the oil, gas, chemical industries and others.
This is a classroom-based course, taught over three days using a mixture of lectures, desktop exercises and practical exercises. At our Billingham training facility we have a training rig with installed Nucleonics to provide practical hands on experience, demonstrate typical systems and highlight associated health and safety requirements. Although the course has a formal structure, there will be the opportunity throughout for discussion, and delegates will be encouraged to share knowledge and experiences in an informal environment.
The courses are presented by accredited Radiation Protection Advisers (RPAs). Each one has many years of experience in providing radiation protection advice in a wide variety of industries, in which radioactive materials are used or are commonly encountered, particularly in the oil and gas industry.
